Why can’t I access the Settings Window?
You must be logged in as an administrator to access and modify the Settings Window.


How do I know what version of Briefcase I am using?
In the Settings Window, under License Registration you will see the Briefcase software version.


How many users is our software licensed for?
In the Settings Window, under License Registration you will see the number of user licenses you have purchased.  This number will be the maximum amount of user accounts you can create.  If you wish to add more user licenses you will need to purchase these by calling Briefcase Sales.


How do I add more user licenses?
Once you have purchased additional licenses from our Sales team you can add a new user license by clicking the Add icon. You will be prompted to enter a passcode to verify the number of new licenses.  You will need to call Briefcase Sales to obtain a passcode.


There is no Settings tab next to the other tabs at the top of the screen. How do I get to the Settings Window?
When you are in a section of Briefcase, such as Purchases, click the Briefcase Tab in the top right corner of the screen to take you to the Main Menu.  Click the Settings icon to take you to the Settings Window.


How do I insert my company logo in the header of my print layouts?
To personalise your print layouts such as your estimates and purchase orders, go to the Settings Window, right click in the space provided for your logo and select Paste, Insert Picture, or Insert File from the menu.  To preview your company header go to a relevant Window and select a print layout such as Estimate, and press the Print button....


When I open Briefcase I get a pop-up that says “Network sharing is off”.
To enable network sharing and disable this pop-up, on the FileMaker Pro Menu select File, Sharing, FileMaker Network… and click the On radio button.


Why is there a Verification Date under the License Registration section of my Settings Window?
The Verification Date is the date your software will need to be verified; you will need to call Briefcase Sales when you are prompted to verify your Briefcase license. This is a security measure to ensure our software is not being distributed illegally. The software will require validation once a year.


I have had a message pop-up that has informed me the “License key expires in 5 days.”
This means you have 5 days left until your Verification Date. On this date you will need to call Briefcase Sales and provide us with your 4 digit security certificate as it appears on your screen.  We will then give you a passcode to enter in which will extend your Briefcase license.


How do I create default footer and header descriptions to appear in my print layouts?
In the Settings Window go to the Presets tab and select the relevant tab such as Estimates.  In the Scope/Footnotes fields enter standard descriptions, where applicable.


How do I change the payment details that appear at the bottom of invoices?
In the Settings Window go to the Presets tab and select the Invoices Tab.  Click in the Footnotes field to enter details.


How do I specify the starting estimate/invoice/purchase number?
When you start using Briefcase you will need to specify the first number to begin each of your estimates, invoices and purchase orders. In the Settings Window go to the Setup tab. In the Settings Window go to the Users tab and click the Add icon. Why can’t I add more users? I get a pop-up message saying “Maximum number of user accounts exceeded. Please contact our sales team to purchase additional licenses”.
You can only create the number of user accounts corresponding to the number of user licenses you bought when you purchased Briefcase.  For example if you have 5 licenses you can create 5 user accounts.  If you wish to add more user accounts you will need to purchase one license per user account.


How do I create a new privilege set?
In the Settings Window go to the Privileges tab and click the Add icon. You will be prompted to specify a name for the new Privilege set (eg. Freelancer). For each section check the boxes to include the privileges you wish to make available to the user.


How do I change the privilege set for an existing user?
In the Settings Window go to the Users tab and click the modify icon next to the user account.  You can choose another user privilege set from the drop down list.


How do I change my login password?
In the Settings Window go to the Users tab and click the modify icon next the your user account.  You can change and confirm your new password.


Why can’t I delete a record for a person? I get a pop-up message saying “This record is used by a user account. Remove the account in the Settings before deleting.”
The person is a registered user of Briefcase and has a user account set up in the Settings Window.  The user account must first be removed before you can delete the record.


Why can’t I delete our company record? I get a pop-up message saying “This record cannot be deleted because it used as the company record in Settings.”
The company is the registered licensed owner of your Briefcase copy.
