Rates

What are rates?
Rates are the activities/services you charge your clients for.  Rates will cover activities in areas such as account service, creative services, production, printing, distribution, advertising, freelance and specialised services etc.  Rates are commonly charged by the hour, although other units can be specified.


What are rate tiers?
Each item for which you charge can have multiple rates – for example, you may charge some clients Standard Rates for design, while others are charged Discount or Contract Rates.  These levels are known as Rate Tiers.


How do I create a new rate?
In the Rates Window click the New Button. Enter a rate name in the Item field and a code for the rate in the Code field. This is normally an abbreviation of what the rate is for eg. DESN for Design Layout. Select a Part where the rate belongs (such as production or supplies) and the Kind (hours, units or quantity) in the respective fields. Check th...


How do I specify rate tiers?
Enter a dollar amount in the Rate fields for Standard, Discount and Contract. (eg. You may charge an hourly design rate of $120 for Standard, $100 for Discount, $100 for Contract.  Or if the item you are charging for has a supplier cost (eg. How do I make rate items available in a certain section such as Estimates or Invoices?
Check the List field boxes to choose the Windows where the rate may be applied. For example, a rate for Account Service is likely to appear in Estimates, Invoices and Time, but not in Purchases.


How do I make rates correspond with the Sales/Expense codes used in my accounting package?
In the Rates Window click in the Sales and Expenses fields to enter the accounting codes that are used in your accounting package.


How do I charge my client by the minute or another unit for a particular task?
Click in the Kind field and select Edit… to create your own option.


How do I charge my client for part of an hourly rate, such as 45min?
In your estimates you can enter a time amount in the Quantity field. Given 1 hour in units is 1.00, the quantities for common times will be 0.25 for 15min, 0.50 for 30min and 0.75 for 45min.  These quantities will automatically be multiplied by the rate to give you the sale amount in your estimates.


How do I print a Rate Card?
In the Rates Window, click the Print Button and select an option from the drop down list (eg. Tier 1 Rates).


How do I change the name of a rate tier/ add a new rate tier?
